CARE OF YOUR JEWELLERY PDF Print E-mail

Congratulations on your choice!  Now you are the proud owner of an exciting piece of unique jewellery, you need to know how to look after it.  It may sound obvious, but these pieces can be fragile and should not be thrown about like a piece of plastic jewellery.  The most vulnerable time for a piece is when you take it off.  Place it down carefully and it will be fine.  If you treat every piece like cut glass, you will not go far wrong!

PERFUME, HAIRSPRAY AND JEWELLERY

DO NOT SPRAY PERFUME OR HAIRSPRAY ON YOUR JEWELLERY!
We advise all our customers to be very careful about perfume, hairspray and jewellery.  Most of us spray perfume around the neckline or wrist, however the cocktail of chemicals in these products can do serious damage to oxidised metals, pearls, stones and other jewellery components.  Organika Gems recommends that perfume is put on and left to dry in before putting your jewellery on and, if possible, we advise not putting perfume on the neck and wrist when wearing your favourite pieces, in particular pearls.

HOW TO AVOID TARNISHING

Silver oxidises when it hits the air.  In conjunction with the natural oils present in the skin, over time, your piece will lose its lustre and the silver will go black or gold.  This could mean a difficult cleaning and polishing job.  To avoid this Organika Gems recommends regular cleaning with a soft cloth, or a silver polishing cloth if the piece has started to tarnish.

STORING YOUR JEWELLERY

Keep your jewellery in an airtight polythene bag such as a grip seal sandwich bag.  This reduces tarnishing.  Please remember to keep your jewellery safe from falling, and flat wherever possible.  Do not store your jewellery in direct sunlight
